Director of General Chemistry Labs at Penn State

The Department of Chemistry at The Pennsylvania State University seeks outstanding applicants for Director of General Chemistry Labs. The appointment is at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. The primary responsibility of the Director is to provide leadership and overall management of the general chemistry lab program. This includes curriculum development; participation in our new Freshman Research Initiative; the selection, hiring, training, and supervision of TAs and lab supervisors and related administrative work; the acquisition of new instrumentation; management of program finances; and the pursuit of funding from internal and external sources. Mentoring of undergraduate students in research related to the development of new labs is expected and teaching general chemistry courses is possible. Our general chemistry program currently involves eight different lab courses, over 50 TAs, and serves ~2,000 students per semester. A $10M+ renovation of the general chemistry laboratory facilities was completed in 2016.
