As our mission states, 2YC3 provides a forum for chemistry educators to enhance student learning through professional development conferences. Our membership is open to educators at all levels; pre-service, high school, technical programs, two-year colleges, four-year colleges, and anyone interested in chemistry education.
Look forward to conferences at Delta College in Michigan and Southwest Tennessee Community College Memphis. The theme for the Michigan conference is “Student Success: Headed to the Workforce”. The Memphis conference theme is “Chemistry Education: Focusing on What Counts”. Both conferences have developed strong programs with activities to maximize the professional time together and enjoy the local culture. Specific details on conference registration, program schedule, and contact information for program chairs for the 202nd and 203rd conferences can be found at the www.2yc3.org website.
Recently Mark Michalovic, Bucks County Community College, PA, attended the College Chemistry Canada (CCC) in Newfoundland as a 2YC3 representative. Mark and Joan Sabourin gave a presented information about the partnerships between groups like 2YC3 and the ACS Office of Two-Year Colleges and the contributions those partnerships provide to chemistry education.
Over the past few years there has been a positive trend of including more two-year college representatives in the larger ACS community. I would like to thank everyone involved in making that happen. There are many representatives of two-year colleges within the working groups of CHED and I hope to encourage the continuation of this involvement so that we can all serve the present and future needs of chemistry education at all levels.
