Biennial Conference Committee Report, Spring 2018

Submitted by chair Dan Sykes

The BCC will present the poster, “Biennial Conference on Chemical Education: A place to share information about the teaching and learning of chemistry,” at the Division poster session 7:00-9:00 PM, Sunday March 18, 2018 and at the Sci Mix 8:00-10:00 PM Monday, March 19, 2018.  Both sessions will be held in Halls D/E, Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans. With this promotional poster, we hope to engage ACS and Division members in conversations about the types of educational, scholarly, and social events associated with the BCCEs, as well as the benefits and resources that are available to those who are interested in hosting a future BCCE. We will also be handing out take-away cards with information about the upcoming BCCE at Notre Dame University and the Biennial Conferences in general.

The BCC is co-sponsoring, along with the Tertiary Education Group, Royal Society of Chemistry, a symposium entitled, “Communicating Chemistry Via Social Media” at the 2018 BCCE, which will be held this summer on the campus of Notre Dame University.

2018 BCCE

Chemical Education is GOLDEN
By the time that you receive this, registration for the 2018 BCCE at Notre Dame will be open.  This promises to be one of the largest conferences yet: 122 workshop sessions; over 1200 papers; a large exhibition; and, of course, Al D. Hyde and the Key Tones.  This is your opportunity to visit Notre Dame and experience the rich history of this campus while renewing old friendships and meeting new colleagues.  This year, in conjunction with AACT, we are hosting our first-ever K-8 Chemistry Day on Monday, along with a robust week-long program for the secondary educators attending the conference. Along with the technical sessions, there will be the traditional social elements of a BCCE:  a 5K Fun Run/Walk starting and ending at the iconic ND Stadium, a BCCE Golf Outing on the Warren Golf Course (home of the 2019 U.S. Senior Open) on Sunday, and the 2YC3 Ice Cream Social during the Monday evening Poster Session and Exhibition.  Make sure to check out all of these (and other) social activities at our website, http://bcce2018.org, and reserve your spot.  The planning committee looks forward to welcoming everyone to Notre Dame to celebrate our Golden Anniversary at the 25th Biennial Chemical Education Conference.
